Choose the context first
Select Source in the viewer to review the chosen library item. Select Sequence to review the film. Tap Media, Viewer, or Timeline to choose a command context before using a connected keyboard. Source and sequence positions are separate; a Source seek does not move the sequence edit point.
Use play/pause and previous/next-frame controls to examine a boundary. Source-frame stepping follows recorded source pictures, which may not have the same spacing as sequence frames. Sequence stepping uses the current sequence rate.
Mark a useful source range
- Tap a source in Media and choose Source.
- Expand Source marks and edit targets if necessary.
- Move to the first wanted picture and tap Mark In.
- Move to the boundary after the last wanted material and tap Mark Out.
- Read the range description before placing it.
Source Out is exclusive: material stops just before that boundary. Sequence Out marking displays the last included sequence frame. The End field in Precision Edit is also exclusive; that clip-end field should not be confused with the inclusive Sequence Out mark.
Use Range & Tracks → Clear Marks to start again. A marked source range selects what will be inserted; it does not trim an existing timeline instance.
Place picture and sound deliberately
In Range & Tracks, enable Use Picture, Use Source Audio, or both, then choose the destination tracks.
| Control | Result | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Append | Places the source range at the sequence end | Build a first rough cut |
| Insert | Makes room at the sequence playhead | Add a missing reaction shot |
| Overwrite | Replaces destination material | Replace an established interval |
| Connect | Adds connected material using the current track rules | Add B-roll over a story |
Selection, source marks, sequence marks, locked tracks, and track targets all affect whether placement is possible. If the app refuses an edit, read its message and correct those inputs before retrying.
Jump to an exact position
Tap the viewer time to open Go to Time, enter Seconds, and tap Go. In Sequence context, the One sequence frame stepper adjusts by the sequence frame duration. For Source context, use the recorded-frame buttons to land on a source picture rather than assuming a decimal seconds value is a frame boundary.
For clip boundaries, the clip actions’ Precision Edit… is more direct: it accepts an absolute Sequence frame. Tools → Precision Trim instead applies an amount to a chosen trim operation. These controls solve different timing tasks.
Check what changed
Switch to Sequence and play across both ends of the new material. For Insert, check later shots that moved; for Overwrite, check replaced sound as well as picture. Use Undo if the result was not intended, adjust the range or target, and try again. Hardware keyboard equivalents are listed here.
